What is Modus?
Using the Traveline
Cymru journey planning software, Modus
provides free personalised journey plans to individuals in
organisations in Wales. Individuals receive personalised journey
plans showing all available bus & rail options from their front door
to work... and back again.
How does it work?
All we need is the
workplace postcode, the individuals' postcodes and an indication of
arrival/ departure times - the Modus software does the rest! We have a Data Protection certificate from
the Information Commissioner should you have any concerns.
Who's used it so far?
We have worked with
a wide range of clients from local authorities (e.g. Vale of
Glamorgan council, Wrexham council) to educational institutions
(e.g. University of Glamorgan, UWIC, Coleg Gwent and Deeside
college) to the private sector (e.g. British Gas call centre, NTL,
Oriel Jones) and even stadium (the Liberty Stadium in Swansea)!
How many plans can you handle?
Since its launch in
May 2004, we have processed over 40,000 Modus
plans. Our largest job was the 12,000 plans for Swansea stadium
season-ticket holders. No job is too big or too small!

What if there are no bus/ rail services?
By processing
Modus plans for your organisation, we
can compare the results with our bus/rail timetable database. This
will highlight any gaps in service provision and we can tell you
which areas might be poorly served. With this information, we can
try to
liaise with the local authorities or public transport operators to
try and improve service provision. This has recently worked in the
Swansea Enterprise Park.
Anything else?
Don't forget this is
a Double Award-winning service. In May 2005
Modus won a National Transport Award (organised by The
Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK) Cymru) in the
Rural Transport category for the work carried out in Pembrokeshire.
The judges
said.... "We like the creative and innovative way in which
Modus is managed as both a
marketing feature and analysis tool. This brings a new and
invaluable dimension to travel planning which can be replicated
across Wales. A high quality application with illustrations, maps
and diagrams which can be shared with employers, local authorities
and transport operators."
In May 2006, we
won a second National Transport Award
(organised by The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport
(UK) Cymru) in May 2006, under the "Best demonstration of
Partnership Working" category for the Travel Planning work we have
conducted in South West Wales.
